The main focus of my PhD project is to investigate compost management strategies to improve the fertilizer quality of the mature compost. I am particularly interested in the nutrient availability and losses resulting from a range of treatments; including the time of N-rich feedstock addition, the addition of various functional microbes and mixing frequency. Part of my research has been carried out in the context of Costa Rica in collaboration with CATIE (Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza) working with locally available organic residues from the sugar and coffee processing industry.
