Research of the group is focused on marginal populations of temperate tree species (Taxus baccata, Prunus lusitanica, Sorbus torminalis and Quercus robur) in favourable and marginal regions of their ranges. The group also focuses on plant dispersal and regeneration at southern distribution limits, including ecophysiology, reproductive biology, regeneration dynamics and macroecology in the Mediterranean, subtropical Macaronesia and Northern Africa. Research is done on tree growth and dendroecology to tract climatic signals from tree rings.
Fernando Pulido represents a group of 13 senior and 11 young researchers from Spain, working on a 4-years project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science with the title Forests at their limits: an integrated analysis of the impact of climatic change on key forest species. The topic of this research is closely related to the collaboration and training objectives of NORA, and thus a number of researchers from this group contribute and participate in NORA activities.
